Farewell My Love (The Moon)
Farewell, my love, for all things must come to pass.
Flowing as the winds of time, the knowledge I've sought to amass.
Ever ebbing is life, like the tides of the sea;
you were my moon, pushing and pulling me.
The pull of life,
seeking shelter from strife;
purity in the glow of your soft moonlight.
Alas, fade from that I soon might.
As the light around me does dim,
I realize I first looked upon you at a whim;
as a man may look to the sky on a dark night,
and suddenly see the moonlight.
I see that death, in life, may not be death at all,
but rather just the end of a long fall.
For against it all, I fell for you,
against gravity, I fell towards the moon.
For me, you shined bright,
and for you, I promised to be strong.
But even a lover's strength can only last so long.
And so it fades, like a setting sun,
but I've come to see that my journey has only just begun.
I remember, one day as a child, looking to the sky,
and seeing the moon, and feeling that life surely was a lie;
for indeed, can not the moon only shine at night?
I was torn between the beauty and the terror of the sight.
And so it was, as I looked upon you,
I questioned all that I knew to be true.
For your beauty surpassed that of the moon,
and your pull was stronger than anything I knew.
We came together with a clash of earth and sky;
worlds colliding, I watched the sparks fly.
So as things end, for they end tonight,
you, my moon, are the perfect sight.
Farewell, my love, my gravity, my moon.
I hope to see you again, but not too soon.
